Communicable Diseases
As a Public Health Department, we have been charged with keeping the residents of Lafayette County healthy and safe.  One thing that we do to ensure this safety is by reporting and following up with Communicable Diseases as they occur in Lafayette County.

Some Examples of Communicable Diseases Are:

  • Food & Water Borne Diseases
  • Hepatitis
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases
  • Tuberculosis
  • Vaccine Preventable Diseases such as pertussis or mumps

Health Care Professionals are required to report specific communicable diseases to the health department.  Once the information is received, one of our Public Health Nurses follows up with the person named in the report as well as anyone else who may have come into contact with that person.

Our nurses are required by state statute to remain confidential and professional when following up with these situations.  The nurses are available to answer questions and to guide individuals on the next steps to recovery.

Please direct your questions regarding communicable diseases
to a Public Health Nurse at (608) 776-4895.
